Having spent over three decades working on iconic brands globally like: IBM, AT&T, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Unilever, P&G, BMW, BP Oil, Air France, TiVo, Disney, IMG, Acer Computers, Pfizer, Nestle, E*Trade, Microsoft, etc. I have learned that your company or brand can be profoundly improved on the New Business and Productivity front if you 100% commit at least 5-6 hours a week (at least one hour blocks each day) to do nothing BUT, making your business or brand much more effective.

Importantly, on a daily basis make your gains small and consistent. Small and incremental gains have done daily, build into weeks, months, quarters and annual results. Just think of the profound impact and effects you and your brand will have over 52 weeks.

The goal is not to become PERFECT – it’s to become more focused, have more clarity, building habits that will ensure you have long-term success and RESULTS.

MY MORNING KICKOFF MINDSET

Each day as I arrive to the office, I will always review my Evening Journal/Diary and use that as the foundation to kickoff my morning habits and mindset.

Some of the key areas I think about at the start of everyday are:

  1. Who needs my A-Game today? Which brand, client, staff member or family member
  2. What are my five top priorities to accomplish? (What matters most today)
  3. What are my key deadlines and duties today
  4. How I will avoid all distractions and interruptions.
  5. I ask myself, what can I do better today.
  6. Touch it once – if you touch it, take action. Don’t open an email first thing in morning. Always focus on your priorities and don’t get pulled into other peoples ‘inboxes’ – I always try to push my GOALS and my AGENDA first.
  7. Plan how long each priority will last – I recommend no more than one hour for each.
  8. Prioritize and focus on the toughest and most difficult projects first
  9. Always strive to contribute world-class levels of support, advice, and recommendations and go way beyond anyone’s expectations.

My core philosophy is making simple and strategic changes that compound to much greater change over time. But, effort must be put in daily, weekly and every month!

Step 1: Focus on solving one problem. Every successful business starts the same way – Solving one problem.

Step 2: Determine your unique value proposition (USP).

Step 3: Engage your core target customers.

Step 4: Focus on Benefits NOT Features

Step 5: Deliver the goods – every time

Step 6: Network and Connect

Step 7: Practice. Practice. Practice

Step 8: Rinse & Repeat

CONCLUSION:

I have consistently seen, in every market, in every country (From the US to Taiwan to London or Sydney or New Zealand) over three plus decades, the best and most effective leaders, innovators and Ad Agencies have all had people at the helm that have developed a morning and daily routine that inspires, exhilarates and supports their own ability to have a growth mindset, have an abundance or energy, passion and openness too.

They all focus on their key business and personal priorities without interruption most of the morning even before jumping in meetings, checking endless emails or talking to staff, friends or family on the telephone first.

I basically have learned that if you focus on your highest work priorities before lunch everyday – you are going to have a hugely productive week full of wins, progress and rewards. I have especially observed the best resist all being in a ‘reactive mode’ and all focus on ‘productivity’ first – especially in the mornings!

BOTTOM-LINE: focus on personal and business priorities has to be your focus every morning to set up the day, week and month. And, remove all distractions as much as you can!

Always remember the consistent, purposeful and deliberate practice opens up a world of infinite possibilities for human improvement.

Achieving goals is as much a mental battle as it is a physical one. You need a clear, compelling goal; the willpower to follow through with massive action; and an unshakeable belief in your own ability to achieve your goals. This is where mindset matters.

So if you have the ‘software’ in your brain selected to winning, achievement and building relationships and positive thoughts – you will win more often! Make your life happen around you! Imprint the ‘values’ you want in your life and business success to achieve it all.
