They are also people who can showcase their companies and skills because they have ‘mastered’ the following insider tips, tricks and tactics online and offline and have become Super-Connectors. Here are some of the best tips on becoming a super-connector.
This article will cover how to improve your engagement with targeted customers, clients, partners and even employees. Interestingly, Facebook has more people using it than LinkedIn BUT, where and why LinkedIn dominates in my opinion is because of the following points:
- LinkedIn today has over 575,000,000 plus registered users of which more than 260+ Million are monthly active users. This means they can generate highly-target sales leads, impact millions of Fortune 500 clients and consistently get their brands in front of millions of folks locally, nationally as well as worldwide.
- LinkedIn is an especially good source for discovering leads. Hubspot found that LinkedIn is 277% plus more effective at generating leads than Facebook and Twitter.
- B2B marketers, regularly report that over 80% of their social media leads come from LinkedIn.
- With more than 20 million companies listed on LinkedIn and 14+ million open jobs, it’s no surprise to find out that 90% of recruiters regularly use LinkedIn.
- More and more companies are benefiting from the advantages of ‘Social Selling’ studies have revealed that 98% of sales reps who have more than 5,000 LinkedIn connections/contacts were able to significantly surpass their sales targets. (Where else can you get that kind of strike rate?)
Now getting back to the topic of becoming a ‘Super Connector’ – Super-Connectors know everyone and everyone knows them whether or not they’re doing business with others in the same Industry, City or Country. Super-Connectors build relationships very quickly and with lots of people. Super-Connectors are invaluable people to have on your team and have skills similar to Conductors or Maestro’s of an orchestra!
By that I mean – a Conductor is usually proficient on at least one or more instruments. But, they must also have a strong working knowledge and understanding of all instruments and voices they will be conducting. Scores are fully absorbed prior to the rehearsal stage and is very rarely sight-read on the podium itself. BUT, a business super-connector often has even more skills than a leading Conductor!
Importantly, Super-Connectors will NEVER turn their backs on the audience when the music commences. In fact, Super-Connectors are almost ‘supernatural’, by this I mean, it requires the unique ability to understand a person’s needs moments after meeting them.
‘Shorten Sales Cycle, Close the Deal Quicker’
Additionally, Super-Connectors ‘match people’ with opportunities and, in doing so, they leave their connections with a positive opinion of them and their abilities.
Having taken decades to observe and ‘model’ myself on what I believe to be ‘uncommon’ with connecting, building loyalty and trust I think it is critical to deeply understand your personal strengths and weaknesses in each area of your business/life – so that you can focus on improving them one at a time. I have observed for decades and always watched and admired the ‘crème-de-la-crème’ who always know what we want. End of Story!
Consistently over the decades, I have witnessed from country to country and city to city – the first questions a Super-Connector may ask after meeting someone is: “How can I help you?”
This question is used to figure out exactly what it is a person wants so they can immediately create a lasting relationship with them by figuring out how to help someone achieve their goals. It is a brilliant tactic and Super-Connectors also like to stay in “in the know.”
Importantly, Super Connectors will know what each of their connections are capable of, who is in their networks, and what connections need or are looking for. This allows them to instantaneously connect people based on needs and abilities, while increasing their own value.
I believe today’s elite ‘Super-Connectors’ all rely on data, and to a lesser degree, ‘gut feelings’. This means, if you don’t know who your audience is, you can’t deliver what they want. And then they won’t give you what you want, i.e. their business.
Super-Connectors also know what each of their connections are capable of, who is in their network, and what connections they need or are looking for. This allows them to instantaneously connect people based on needs and abilities, while increasing their own value. Now that’s just plain smart as well as effective!
All awesome Super-Connectors take copious amounts of notes, daily, weekly, monthly as well as annually – NOT just phone numbers, email addresses, or the person’s job title. A super-connector takes the time to summarize and accurately write down their first impressions of a person, how they met, where they met, and any immediate information gathered from that person.
A super-connector also makes notes on anyone that they have connected that person with and why. This allows connectors to make everyone they meet for a second time feel important and remembered. That’s key and important! Always know who’s who in the ZOO!

- Be trustworthy and trusting is a key, especially in today’s digital environment.
- Super-Connectors make time for their connections – always reaching out for a coffee, when on business trips, or sharing a lunch or even sending helpful or useful research or information via email. Importantly, I have truly grown to believe that, face-to-face interactions go a long way for the most elite connectors.
- I believe the first step to start ‘social selling’ is to conduct an audit of your own social media channels and establish your own Professional Brand. Listen with Social Media Monitoring tools and engage with social media.
If you are trying to be a Super-Connector, stop to think, do you know any other Super-Connectors? Knowing a few and having a ‘super-connector’ or three, in your network will also help you expand your own network. This will also give you someone to observe and help you to hone your own skills.
